EA have just announced a reboot of the Medal of Honor franchise. Leaving the previous setting of World War 2 in the past, Medal of Honor will instead be set in war-torn Afghanistan. Currently being developed by EALA & DICE (Battlefield: Bad Company, Mirror’s Edge), Medal of Honor is set for release during 2010; however a firm date has yet to be announced.

Speaking on Medal of Honor, Sean Decker (VP and General Manager of EALA), had this to say: -

EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers’ story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today’s war and today’s elite soldiers via today’s most relevant medium – videogames. [...] We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre.

With rumours speculating that the BBC iPlayer was in development for the Xbox 360, the Telegraph is reporting that it is indeed ready to drop. However, due to a dispute between Microsoft and the BBC, it’s been delayed.

The disagreement centers around Microsoft’s insistence that the BBC iPlayer app be distributed as a Gold subscriber benefit (in a similar fashion to Last.fm, Twitter, and Facebook). However, “the BBC cannot charge the British public for access to the iPlayer as it is already included in the licence fee.”

A BBC spokesman said: “BBC iPlayer has been extremely successful on PS3 and we recently re-launched on Nintendo Wii, from which the public response has been fantastic. People clearly want the BBC iPlayer on their gaming consoles, and we don’t think Xbox users are any different, so we’ve had discussions with Microsoft about bringing the service to the platform.”

Final Fantasy XIII has finally been given a launch date, 9th March 2010. You can help unlock an exclusive XBL FFXIII item using Twitter, here.

The much anticipated NXE update will go live on 17th November, you can read my first impressions here.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sold an amazing 1.2 million copies in the UK on day of release, congratulations to Infinity Ward.

According to Console Monster, The Bible is set to hit your Xbox 360 soon. It’s expected to retail for 400 MS points.

Project Natal has been named as one of TIME Magazine’s Inventions of the Year. This marks the third major honour that Project Natal has received in the past month, not bad for something that isn’t even on shelves yet.

A new version of the Xbox 360 wireless adaptor has been announced. It supports the N protocol (as well as a, b, and g), sports dual antennas, and promises a greater wireless range. It will be available this Christmas.

Normal service will resume tomorrow, I promise.

Major Nelson recently made a post concerning the forthcoming NXE update, which is currently being previewed before its general release later this month. If you’re under 18, then you’ll be unable to use the three main elements that comprise the update, Twitter, Facebook, and Last.fm.

As some of you might be aware, those under the age of 18 are not able to access Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm in our public preview. I want to you let you know that this will remain the case when it launches to the world soon. We made this decision because as it stands now, parents aren’t able to use Family Settings to customize which of these applications their children can access. In order to offer an age-appropriate environment for everyone, we decided to turn off these applications for those Gold members under the age of 18.

The blog post goes on to state that a further update is in the works that will allow parents to choose to activate these applications for child accounts. The post can be read in full, here.
